Sole DXB is a leading cultural festival at the intersection of music, fashion, art, and sport, bringing together global and regional communities in Dubai each year.
As the festival has grown in scale and cultural significance, its digital presence needed to evolve beyond a single-event website into a platform that could support both annual campaigns and year-round editorial content.
We were engaged to define the digital strategy and design a new website that could balance the immediacy of festival moments with the longevity of a broader cultural platform. The objective was to create a flexible system that could adapt year to year, while establishing a consistent foundation for long-term growth.

Our approach began with digital strategy, focusing on user profiling, site structure, and content architecture. The challenge was to design a platform that could operate across two distinct modes: a high-intensity festival environment with rapidly changing content, and a slower, editorial-led experience that lives between annual cycles.
In response, we developed a clear sitemap and CMS structure that supports both scenarios, allowing the Sole team to manage time-sensitive announcements alongside evergreen content, features, and cultural storytelling. This thinking formed the foundation of a fully bespoke WordPress CMS, built to handle scale, flexibility, and ease of use.

The design system was developed to be both consistent and adaptable. A modular framework underpins the site, with the ability to evolve key visual elements such as typography and colour to reflect each year’s festival identity, without losing overall cohesion. This ensures the platform remains recognisable while allowing creative expression to shift annually.
The result is a digital platform that reflects the dynamic nature of Sole DXB, providing the flexibility required for live event cycles, alongside a structured foundation for long-term content and audience growth.

A key part of the platform was creating a more sophisticated approach to editorial content. Rather than designing a fixed article template, we developed a bespoke modular page builder that gives the Sole team the ability to shape each story around its content, subject and visual character.
A flexible library of editorial modules allows features, interviews, cultural stories, photography and long-form content to be composed in different ways, creating variation while maintaining a clear and recognisable design language.

The system was designed to give the editorial team genuine creative control without introducing unnecessary complexity. Content can be structured and art-directed directly within the CMS, allowing the platform to respond to different types of stories as Sole’s editorial output continues to grow. This was an important shift in thinking: the website was no longer simply a digital destination for the annual festival, but a flexible publishing platform capable of supporting Sole’s wider role within culture throughout the year.
By giving the team the tools to continually create, adapt and publish, the platform becomes an evolving expression of the brand rather than a static website. It provides the structure to support long-term growth, while leaving enough freedom for the content itself to shape the experience.
